The Rabbit Hole

How deep down the rabbit hole, would you go?
Life is nothing more than making choices,
precious decisions, that impact virtually all you know.
What girl to marry? What job to take? What's best for me?
Well, you see-
Your looking at life to simply.
Red pill or Blue Pill?
We choose our own fate-
a balloon filled with questions,
Answers needed to inflate.
If knowledge is power, how do I test my strength?
Through the number of books I read,
or how many test I ace?
In that case,
A cognitive steroid I'll embrace.

My first question has to do with the politicians,
why is it that the same people get elected-
then corrupt the system?
Ya, I know there is a Black man in the White House.
I support Obama,
but as soon as the world saw his face there's drama.
There shouldn't be a problem with a Black man in a White building,
for me this historic act is morally fulfilling.

Like a puppeteer politicians tie directly to education.
Seems like the government is blind to the problems we're facin'.
The best teachers, always found in White neighborhoods,
My uneducated people, left to dealin' drugs,
To you its not understood.
Now the purpose is not to place blame,
But to encourage ambition, an inert-drive is the aim.
Its manifest we are lacking black philosophers and scholars,
It seems that rap videos make it cool to sell your body for a quick dollar.
Now, I wanna know where the classy ladies went...
A dying breed,
Apparently, that quality was ditched
Know the youth want to be a "five-star-chick" or a "Barbie Bitch"

I'm looking for tat girl whose momma raised her right,
a chick who uses her brains to ignite conversations-
insight.
Now this special lady has big shoes to fill,
Compared to my mom, my queen-
She is one in a mil'.
I must say that I'm blessed, being
Raised in a household,
With a mother and a father-
a dissipating mold.
I tip my hats to the single ladies and the single men,
that raised their kids, I cant imagine the task that would have been.
The stigma on my race is that we cant stay together,
Its a shame that's how we're looked upon,
We gotta do better.
Raise your kids right, not just to defeat the stereotype.
But for the satisfaction of keeping a role model in their sight.

That Kinda Love

I want that kinda love -
that "I'll never put no one above," kinda of love.
When you call I stop everything, kinda love.
Talk on the phone, about nothin'-
Yet always sayin' somethin', kinda love.
Like your grandparents - 50 years strong, kinda love.
The feeling that with her is where you belong.
When you send a text with a smile,
And she doesn't reply for a while
And you get antsy, like, "whats this chick doin'," kinda love.

I want you to fall asleep with me,
In my arms is where you'll wanna be - type of love.
that love where you fight for nothin'
but love it, because you make up with a love 10 times strong.
Like a child and his mom,
a bond so strong - type of love.
Beyonce and Hov, Bonnie and Clyde
Ride or Die, type of love.

The kind of love, where ya boys talk shit,
'Cause its her that you always wanna be with-
That love.
Remember monthly anniversaries,
outliving the controversy - that love.
The love that Boys II Men would recall,
Monica and Quincy in Love in Basketball-
That love.
Minutes turn to hours, and hours to days,
Still I wait for-
That love.

I cant wait to find that affection,
a feeling unexplainable - parallel to your perfection.
Giddy like a kid at Disney World -
That feeling.
The, Game-on-the-line, butterflies in your gut-
that feeling.
Like winning an award and your my prize.
that feeling.
Once a blind man, now I see-
That feeling.
I promise once I feel that affection,
I'll finally stop stressin', and thank God for his blessin'
This is my confession-
I want That Kinda Love.

I'm Sorry

I'm sorry I'm not the man you want me to be,
but you see - I can only be me.
I'm not like any other, ordinary brotha'
Strong-willed, intelligent and skilled, like no other.
If your looking for a thug, to deal drugs on the block,
I'm sorry but your looking for the man that I'm not.

I'm sorry because sometimes I fall short,
I make mistakes, and sometimes plead guilty in God's court.
But the fact of the matter is I learn from my mistakes,
The ceilings I will shatter as I take my stake.
Success is not easy, but a challenge - so I work hard,
I'm sorry its not easy, and sometimes I'm sub-par.

I'm sorry for the fact that I share the curse,
Saggy jeans, and my hat turned back in reverse.
I can't be educated or a role-model - one day I'll fall,
I must sell drugs, have a child, and play basketball.
Dr. MLK shared his dream, but I'm still only a color,
Again, I am sorry that to you , I look like all the others.

I feel sorry for you, for your past and disgrace,
that you disdain my people, as we embrace our race.
Being bough and sold, hung from trees like its leaves,
once three-fifths a man and still you don't see.
I understand that many are to naive,
And I'm sorry for those that don't believe that I'll achieve.

I am NOT sorry for the man that I have become,
standing on my own two feet, inferior to none.
Humble yet ambitious - so much to attain,
God fearing but king of my own domain.
I am proud of my past and waiting to see what the future brings,
I repeat, I am not sorry of what I turned out to be.
